A farewell salute to the S. S. Galaxy… NOT!
See the comments!
Dear Galaxy Community,
It is with great sadness I write to inform you the SS Galaxy will be closed and deleted from the SL grid on March 1st. With the effect of the world economic downturn, the Galaxy project is unable to sustain itself. After two years to the date of this project’s start and large amount of resources spent with no recovery in sight, the financier of the Galaxy have decided to call it a quits.
If no serious action comes forth to save the ship by Feb 15th, the Galaxy will be destroyed in a spectacular sinking event on March 1st. It promise to be an event of a life time, just like the Galaxy herself has been. Stay tuned for group notice on the details.
…
A Galaxy Museum is planned in SL and the website will survive as an archival site. We would like to preserve the “Galaxy Experience” and her memories as much as we can. There is even a possibility of a book with collections of stories and images from the Galaxy, “Life on the Galaxy”. We’ll let you know soon on how to contribute into the collection.
To our valued community members, we thank you for embarking on this most wonderful SL journey with us and your support and involvement which kept the Galaxy going in the last two years.
To the Galaxy Team, same as IRL, “the crew makes the ship”, you’ve made the Galaxy Experience possible and special. It was an honor and pleasure serving with you. No matter what happens after this month, and wherever you carry on with your SL, you will always be part of the Galaxy family and the Galaxy yours.
Mahalo for the best two years of my SL. Aloha.
Bill Stirling
Sagittaria Owner and builder
I want to take this opportunity to thank Bill, DB, Lacey, Polly and the rest of the staff of the Galaxy for the months of good music, hilarity and comraderie I’ve shared in, since the first time I stepped on board over a year and a half ago. If I had to pick out one moment when SL made me laugh the most, it would be those utterly ridiculous monowheel races on the top deck. Friday nights without Danton’s set in the Zodiac ballroom will never be the same again.
Today is a sad, sad day.

Damn, the Galaxy was good. I kind of wish I’d hung out there more – they were definitely the best at their thing & it’s a real pity to see them go.
Dear Galaxy Community,
It was recently announced, the SS Galaxy has been hit by a economic downturn and has not been able to sustain itself and due to close at the end of the month.
Well I have very good news. The SS Galaxy will NOT close!
A benefactor has agreed to take over the tier of the Galaxy. This new owner has assured me there will be little change in the day to day operations of the Galaxy. He is only interested in saving the ship from closure, not administrative duties. But Bill Stirling will take on less of a administrative role returning to Sag building projects, that have been put on hold due to lack of time. However, he shall still be around with building and doing future modifications to the Galaxy.
I shall stay on as Managing Director and most of the current staff will remain as well. A new dawn has come to the Galaxy!
